Shots on the house. Så shots it was!
Min reaktion var bogstavelig talt: Oh dear God, there's a scorpion in my bed!
Men seriøst...2(!!!) skorpioner inden for 24 timer?

Thursday we sent Stephen back to UK with style. We went to Sleepers for breakfast and ended up having shots (on the house) before we got our food, because South Africa destroyed Namibia in WC rugby while we where there. On the way into town I got to see another sleepy giraffe, and this time I got pictures (se pic above). had so much french toast for breakfast that I could hardly walk to the car. On the way back to Makanyi I got an awesoem shot of an impala (see pic above). Thursday night we had an amazing "sundown" in the middle of a big herd of buffalo.
Friday they burned a big piece of the land just outside Makanyi (see photo). At night we wwnt to Suscha's for a braai. Suchar is our South African grandma down here. We got back home to the lodge feeling like stuffed Christmas turkeys and I was on the bed with my laptop when all of a sudden I saw something move right next to me (see grizzly pic above). My reaction was so calm and understated that Holly didn't know if I was joking when I just said: Oh dear God, there's a scorpion in my bed. Obviously I wasn't joking and we caught the beast at sent him back outside. The rule of thumb with scorpions is: the bigger the claws the lesser the sting, the smaller the claws the nastier the sting. So you do the math on this one, after I provide you with another picture for comparison below.
Saturday we went up north to talk to some of the landowners about the leopard project. We have camera traps on their land and they are very eager to get news on the project. We also get infor from them, and at one camp they had seen dusins of leopards over the past few days. We nodded and smiled while trying to hide the envious full on green Fiona face colour. I asked them to GPS the locations where they had seen leopards, as it might provide us with new suitable locations for camera traps. On the way back to the lodge, we had a very good elllie sighting and we also saw a black-backed jackal - Stephen is going to be happy now! (see pics above). Back at the lodge, Holly almost stepped on a HUGE scorpion (see evidence pic above)....notice his big claws: not as potent as the one I had in my bed the day before (wait...does this mean that size really doesn't matter?!?). Either way...now that's just great. Two scorpions in our room in less than 24 hours. Is there even the slightest chance that either Holly or I do NOT end up at the hospital at some point during the next 6 months. Not really, huh? Oh well...occupational hazard?
